Hey friends!
I want to remind you of something we often forget to nurture—our village. Community is one of the most powerful tools we have for staying grounded and productive, especially during seasons of chaos. And let’s be honest, nothing feels more chaotic than this time of year.
Recently, a client shared something that really stuck with me. She had decided to move back to the neighborhood she grew up in—not because the house was perfect, but because of the people. She realized her true “village” was there: the friends, neighbors, and community who knew her, supported her, and made life feel a little lighter. That sense of belonging mattered more than anything else.
Kids are heading back to school, Halloween is already creeping into Target aisles (👀), the holidays will be here before we blink, and then suddenly—it’s a brand-new year. Whew.
So how do we manage this whirlwind season?
By leaning on our village and our systems.
This is the time to call on the people who make life a little lighter. When your household gets hit with the latest bug, who can you reach out to for support? When you’re buried under holiday prep, who can you text to vent—or better yet, meet up with for something fun?
But here’s the thing: villages don’t just magically appear when life gets hectic. They need care. They need nurturing. The same is true for your home and routines—if we don’t set them up ahead of time, chaos takes over.
👉 Now is a great time to check in with your people and your systems. A little preparation makes it easier to show up for others—and easier for them to show up for you. Here are some ways to do both.
3 Simple Ways to Reach Out to Your Village:
Sometimes it’s the small gestures that mean the most. Send a quick text to check in, call someone and leave a voicemail or have a short chat, or go the old-fashioned route and mail a card or postcard. One of my friends sends postcards when she travels—just a couple of sentences, but it’s so sweet knowing they thought of me.
3 Ways to Check Your Home Systems:
A little check-in now saves chaos later. Take 10 minutes to glance at your calendar—are routines clear and doable? Peek in the kitchen or entryway—are things organized and easy to access? And finally, review your weekly to-do list—are there gaps or steps that need streamlining? A quick reset goes a long way.
And don’t forget your kids! This is the perfect season to remind them of the trusted adults they can turn to if you’re not available—whether for an emergency or just everyday support.
Check on your people. Support your people. Take care of each other. Take care of yourself.
Because when we care for our community and set up the right systems at home, we’re also caring for ourselves.
📋 Want to make back-to-school feel a little less… chaotic?
I put together a customizable back-to-school prep checklist you can download and keep on hand. It’s full of lunch ideas, routines, and must-dos—without the stress or mom guilt. Pssstt – even if school starts this week you can work on these things AND save for next year 🙂
Let’s make this school year a little smoother—together.
