Hey friends!

Let’s be honest—how many times have you watched the news, seen a storm warning, a power outage, or something scary happening somewhere, and thought:

“Oh no, I need to… check our batteries, find that flashlight, set up that emergency alert, refill our water stash, print out emergency contacts… something.”

But then, life keeps lifing. The next thing grabs your attention, and those great intentions to prepare get pushed to the back burner again. Until the next “OMG” moment.

I’m not here to add to your stress—I’m here to help you take action in doable, non-overwhelming ways. Let’s make preparing for emergencies feel less like a looming to-do list and more like a loving act of care for your family.

Here are 5 simple things you can do right now (or this week) to feel a little more peace and control when life gets chaotic:

  1. Make a “When Things Go Sideways” Bin
Grab a tote, basket, or even a large Ziploc and start filling it with:
  • Flashlight & extra batteries
  • Battery-powered phone charger
  • First aid basics (band-aids, meds, thermometer, etc.)
  • Copies of ID cards & emergency contacts
  • Protein bars or shelf-stable snacks
  • A note with your emergency plan

You don’t have to buy everything today—just start gathering. The goal is to know exactly where to go when you need it.

  1. Talk Through a Family Plan
Nothing fancy. Just take 10 minutes to chat through:
  • Where to go in a fire
  • What to do if you lose power
  • Who to call if mom’s phone dies
  • Where the emergency bag lives

Even if your kids are little, this gives them a sense of safety—and it helps you feel more grounded too.

  1. Declutter One Space That Matters
Pick one spot that would be a pain in an emergency (junk drawer, utility closet, glove box), and give it a quick reset.
Clear out the dead batteries, organize the flashlights, refill the first aid kit.
Organizing just one area can create clarity and momentum—plus, you’ll know exactly where things are when it counts.
  2. Make a Digital Vault
Create a simple folder on your phone or computer with:
  • Insurance info
  • Emergency contacts
  • Medical info for each family member
  • Utility shut-off info (water, gas, electric)

Bonus points: Print a copy to tuck in your emergency bin.

  1. Set a Reminder to Review Monthly
No need to overhaul your whole life—just put a 5-minute calendar reminder once a month to do a quick check.
Restock snacks, replace expired meds, make sure your portable chargers are charged, and update any info.

The Bottom Line?
You don’t need a bunker or a year’s worth of food to feel more prepared.
You just need a plan, a few key tools, and the confidence that you’ve already thought this through—even a little.

Let this be the month you don’t let the next scary headline pass by without action.
You’ve got this, and I’m right here cheering you on. 💛
