Hey friends!
I’ve been testing the Things app for a couple of weeks, and I wanted to give you my honest take. I’d heard about it from colleagues, and a client wanted to try it, so I figured it was time.
Here’s what I found:
What I Loved
There’s a lot to like here. I appreciated the clean layout, the way you can add headings and notes to tasks, and how you can categorize or tag them and link them to a project. The “Today” feature is great — you can star a task for today, but also set deadlines separately or mark it as “Someday” if you don’t have a specific date.
I loved that you can add subtasks or steps, set reminders, and view tasks in different ways. The logbook for tracking habits is another nice touch. Basically, it’s packed with features that support planning, prioritizing, and keeping track of everything — and that’s why so many people rave about it.
What I Didn’t Love
Here’s the honest part: Things is phone-only, and the desktop version is expensive. It’s a one-time fee, but high enough that it becomes a real consideration. For me, adding a bunch of tasks during a brain dump felt slow on my phone. I like to switch between computer and phone, and if I’m adding lots of to-dos at once, speed matters. Using it solely on my phone started to feel like a chore, and that’s why I faded out of consistent use.
So, Things is a great fit if you mostly live on your phone, don’t mind brain-dumping there, or are willing to pay for the desktop version.
Who This App Works For
If you’ve tried other apps and are looking for something simple but robust, give the phone version a spin. It’s packed with features I’ve been coaching people on for years — features that are also part of my POP Life course.
If you already have the desktop version of Things, I’d love to hear your feedback — is it worth it for the extra cost?
Final Take
I recommend giving Things a try on your phone, especially if you’re used to trying productivity apps. I can’t say it’s worth the price for everyone since I didn’t stick with it myself, but it’s a solid option for people who fit the “phone-first” model.
