Hi Friend,
Have you ever felt like your to-do list is never-ending, even when you’re technically “caught up”? You’re not imagining it. Most of us feel constantly busy, stressed, and behind — and it’s not just the tasks on our plate.
It’s the mental load.
Mental load is all the invisible thinking, planning, and remembering you do every single day. It’s the little things no one sees:
- remembering who needs what at school or work
- keeping track of appointments, deadlines, and errands
- planning meals or figuring out logistics for the week
- juggling multiple people’s priorities while managing your own
Even when your visible tasks are under control, mental load can make you feel like you’re running a never-ending marathon in your brain. It’s exhausting, draining, and often unnoticed — until it reaches a breaking point.
Most productivity advice ignores mental load. To-do lists, scheduling hacks, or “just focus more” strategies don’t address the invisible work in your head.
One Simple Step to Start Managing Mental Load
Empty your brain. Take a notebook, a piece of paper, or a digital note, and write down everything you’re holding in your head. Not just the big tasks — include all the little reminders, errands, ideas, and decisions.
Don’t organize, don’t prioritize yet. Just get it out of your head. This simple act immediately:
- frees mental space
- reduces stress and the feeling of “always thinking”
- gives you a clear view of what you’re actually carrying
Once it’s all on paper, you’ll start noticing patterns, bottlenecks, and recurring mental load that you weren’t even fully aware of. This clarity is the first step toward regaining control of your time and energy.
Inside my POP Life Course, I go further — teaching a system to prioritize, delegate, and manage mental load so your days feel calmer and more intentional.
